Shooting Blanks – Wasted Time | 08.24.2003
Remember Blanks 77, a band dedicated to drinking, singing, drinking and then singing about drinking? The only difference between that band and Shooting Blanks is the delivery. While Blanks 77 played old-school punk rock, the Shooting Blanks spew out snotty melodic pop-punk with a snarl and a beer bottle aimed at your head. Witty and funny, the writing deals with girls and drinking, but doesn’t sink into the sappy emo-pop territory. Instead, these guys do a great job of not taking themselves too seriously and just rock out for rocking out’s sake. “Wasted Time,” “Simple Song” and “She Loves Me Cuz I Rock” have been playing back in my head for the better part of last week, so it’s with a clear conscience that I urge you to pick up a copy of this record. It’s just a good dose of fun and goes great with a tall glass.
